Yoga for people with special needs
Training Facilitator Anya Kruger
27 th January 2024, 10.00 am – 3.00 pm

Cost: €88.00

The aim of this workshop is to give tools of Yoga and movement therapy to persons who already
have contact with people with special needs or wish to work in that area in the future. It is intended
for special school teachers, ABA teachers and SNA’s, yoga teachers, parents and medical personnel
working in schools with people who are not neuro-typical.

  • Contents:
The focus in this course is how to bring Yoga to people with special needs rather than
    neurotypical people
  • How to connect with breath without talking about it
  • The idea of learning through movement and rhythm – how to adapt yoga poses into
    rhythmic sequences
  •  Co-ordinating the body focusses the mind – using yoga movement to expand attention span
  • Working with the senses. The importance of proprioception, balance, listening and eye
tracking. How to keep the senses alive with Yoga
  • Practical demonstrations of all movements – attend Saturday, teach in your school Monday
  • Relaxation ideas: how to calm down
  • Comprehensive handout. Reading recommendations. Props and where to get them.

This is a hands-on workshop – participants can expect to learn by doing. The course is structured to
include rhythmic simple Yoga (no extensive knowledge of yoga poses necessary), short lectures,
group discussions and partner exercises in order to allow an exchange of ideas. There is an overlap
between the movement sequences taught in this course and in the YTI Yoga for Children course.

Please bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable layered clothing.
